In between the major beach communities of Playas del Coco and Playa Flamingo lays a newly built area called Las Catalinas in Playa Danta. This small coomunity features private homes, Lola's Restaurant, Pura Vida Ride (providing Kayaks, SUP's, Bikes and Snorkel gear for rent) and Walking & Biking Trails through the hills.
From Playas del Coco, Playa Danta is a 40 minute drive through an accessable road on the way to the RIU. Once arriving after driving through a rather good dirt road, we reached the destination spot and experience the Pura Vida Ride Paddle Battle 2012.
The Pura Vida Battle Battle is in its' second year and included events for beginners and experienced, Men and Women paddlers along with a family race in which two persons (or Man and dog in one case) raced to the finish.
The event reached about 150 people in attendance and was well put together by the organizers. While the weather stayed nice for most of the event, slight dizzle and some waves decided to crash the contest but did not faze the competitors.
Competitors ranged all ages and came from all over Guanacaste including Playa Tamarindo, Playas del Coco, Liberia, Playa Flamingo, Playa Hermosa and others.
We are awaiting the final results and next years competition. Stay tuned for more events in Playa Danta soon!
